simtools-plot-telescope-structure#

Plot the optical geometry of a telescope, including its mirrors, camera housing, and supporting structure. The geometry comes from model parameters and does not include random alignment errors.

With --shadowing, the plot colours each structure element by the light it stops on its own. This analysis requires the obdeect package, installed with simtools’ default dependencies.

Example#

simtools-plot-telescope-structure --site North --telescope LSTN-01 \\
  --model_version 7.0.0 --output_path telescope-structure

To use a telescope structure definition from an ECSV file, pass --telescope_structure_file path/to/structure.ecsv. This file overrides the structure file selected by the telescope model.

Add --shadowing to include the shadowing analysis. Its star zenith angle, photon count, and random seed can be set with --zenith_angle, --photons, and --seed.

Command line arguments#

show this help message and exit

–shadowing

Colour the structure by the light each element stops alone (needs obdeect).

–zenith_angle

Zenith angle of the star for –shadowing [deg].

Default: 20.0.

–photons

Number of star photons traced for –shadowing.

Default: 1000000.

–seed

Random seed of the star photons for –shadowing.

Default: 11.

–telescope_structure_file

ECSV file defining the telescope structure (overrides the model file).

Observatory site (e.g., North, South). Use –show_options site.

–telescope

telescope model name (e.g., LSTN-01, SSTS-design, …)

model repository#

–simulation_models_path

Path containing the simulation-model repository to read.

–simulation_models_git_path

Path to a local normal, bare, or mirror Git repository containing simulation models.
